I spend a lot of time trying to convince road runners to start running trails.

I lay out all the benefits — injury prevention, endurance, strength, adventure, mental enjoyment — and hope that they listen enough to give it a shot.

I know that once they do hit the dirt, the trail will do the rest.

Today I’m flipping that around. I want to convince you, the trail runner, to consider the road as a powerful training tool. Not because I love pounding the pavement, or believe it holds some magic power, but because I think we often overlook the benefits of mixing up our routine.

In today’s episode of Trail Talk, I discuss the benefits to road running, and specific workouts trail runners in particular should work into their weekly training.
